The sun may be shining, and the spring buds may be starting to appear, but that doesn’t mean the winter cold spells are behind us.
The early arrival of easter this year means that staycations and weekend breaks are being booked before the UK climate has fully entered spring – encouraging us to create this blog dedicated to keeping a static caravan warm when it’s chilly outside.
Opt for a caravan with double glazing
As you browse the plethora of static caravans for sale and available to rent across the UK, you will notice that all of them are listed with added features – from outside seating space to extra bedrooms and bathrooms, built-in appliances, and heating systems.
If you’re buying a caravan and want to be able to use it in the winter months specifically, make sure that you opt for a model which boasts both heating inside and double glazing. It can be easy to overlook double glazing especially, but without it, all the heat generated by an internal heater will be lost at a rapid rate – leaving you feeling the chill!
Insulate underneath your caravan
This is a tip for caravan owners rather than holidaymakers, though it can help when deciding which caravan to book!
Adding an extra layer of insulation underneath your caravan can be an effective way to keep the warm in and the cold out – further enhancing the retention of heat through added carpet and rugs.
Fibreglass is a popular insulating material because it not only holds the heat in effectively but is also waterproof, making it a good choice for the wet British weather and our naturally damp environment. A thickness of around 60mm, or 6cm, is recommended for the underside of a caravan to provide adequate protection – with particularly exposed sites benefitting from additional protection around the walls, roof, and even the water pipes of a caravan to prevent freezing.
Remember, insulation is a year-round investment as it protects the environment inside your static caravan both when it’s cold and when it’s hot outside – keeping your inside space comfortable throughout the seasons.
Add soft furnishings
Staying warm in a static caravan during the winter months isn’t just about the logistics of insulating but also the impact of soft furnishing and details which finetune a cosy environment.
Sofas, rugs, blankets and cushions are all great additions to make your caravan feel warm and cosy. It is especially important to add soft touches in rooms with no carpet – for example, adding a soft shower mat to your caravan’s bathroom to create a more luxurious experience when you step out of the shower.
All of the tips mentioned in this blog are great ways to make your static caravan feel warm and welcoming during the chilly winter months and into early spring.
